Warren County staff visited Casella's material recycling facility in Halfmoon to examine what happens to local single-stream recyclables, the county reported on May 19, 2026. Participants included county DPW staff and representatives of Crandall Public Library and Zero Waste Warren County.

The county described the visit as part of efforts to improve recycling practices after it began hauling material from town transfer stations in 2025. The account covered sorting equipment and mistakes that can contaminate recyclable material or create hazards at a processing facility. It also connected the hauling program with better information about what individual communities collect. Residents should use their own transfer station's current instructions when deciding which items that site accepts.
