STATION
1:
VISITOR CENTER
In
the Visitor Center, you will find an educational video describing
the year-round hatchery operation, fish mounts, and stocking Information. During
the summer months, fish are displayed in the Living Stream. The
fish that we stock in the spring are about this size.

STATION
2: PONDS 1, 2, &3
In
early summer, young fish are moved from the hatchery building
(station #3) into these ponds, where they will stay through the
winter. In the fall, the numbers are reduced to about 4,000
per pond. This will reduce crowding and promote
better growth. The surplus fish are kept during the
summer to compensate for any potential losses, such as those
caused by lightning, theft, disease, and predators. When
these fish are stocked in the spring, they will be 10"-12"
long.

To
help with predator control, bird-proof netting is put up over
these
ponds
in late summer. During the winter months, however, we must rely
on scare tactics to keep the birds away. To do this, we use "predator
eyes", which trick birds into thinking there are owls or
hawks roosting here. When other birds see this they hopefully
stay away.
